Personal Information

Sex: Male

Birthdate: 1983

Current Residence: United States

About Me: I was born in Casablanca and currently live in Los Angeles. I work in the financial industry and have a economics background - I am looking to make a breakthrough as an entrepreneur in the internet realm.

I grew up speaking English in Morocco and moved to live in the US for college in Chicago. I also lived in China (where I was thought to be half Chinese) and Toronto (arguably most diverse city in the world).

As I meet more people and live/travel to new places I am always intrigued by people's similarities and differences. Generally, it is hard for people to guess my background which pushed me to look into finding out about my heritage.

I think this is a great and fun tool. Looking forward to finding out about other people's backgrounds and stories in an effort to learn more about myself!

Ancestry Information

Birthplace: Morocco

Family Surnames: Youssefi, Benhamou

Family Locations: France, Canada, USA, Morocco

About My Family: I have berber heritage from the south of Morocco, which are the native inhabitants of Morocco.

It is unclear what is the origin of the Berbers, nevertheless, there is talk about population that moved from Asia, subsaharan Africa, Southern Europe, and Middle East to settle in Morocco. The population is pre-Arabic / Islamic expansion in the region. The population living in the region was pagan and jewish. Hence the origin is diverse.

Based on my haplogroup findings my paternal line is E1b1b1b2a (common amongst Berbers, Greeks, Albanians, Ashkenazi) and maternal line is U4a2 (common in Northeastern Europe).

Ancestry Information

Birthplace: Libya

About My Family: Both my parents are Amazigh (Berber) from Libya's Nafusa Mountain. I can trace back my great grandparents at least 400 years in Nafusa Mountain.

On my ancestry composition it says I am almost 90% North African and almost 10% Italian but on my paternal lineage I get a Turkmen and on my maternal lineage I get X1b (Levant area).

This makes no sense to me. How can the ancestry composition and the "paternal" and maternal lines be completely different.

I am a Berber from Libya, so the fact that I get North African makes sense.

This is slighlty confusing to say the least.

Any ideas why this is so?
